Exam Preparation Courses

 

Exam preparation courses are the right choice for:

  • Students who need to prove that they have a high level of English for work, study or emigration purposes.
  • Students who enjoy the challenge of a focussed course with clear goals.
  • Students who are at a strong intermediate level or above when they start their exam preparation course.
  • Students who are able to do one to two hours of homework a day to complement the course lessons.

Experienced teachers, small class sizes and personal attention to all students ensure a high pass rate at Good Hope Studies.

We offer exam preparation courses for the following exams:

  • Cambridge FCE, CAE & CPE
  • IELTS
  • TOEFL

Advanced Certificate in English (CAE) is widely accepted as proof of English language skills for university entry, especially in the UK, and is accepted by more than 2700 organisations around the world.

Cambridge Course

  • The courses are run as closed courses. All lessons throughout the course are exclusively for Cambridge candidates.
  • Students doing the 8 week course are entering a course that has already started. Only strong candidates can be accepted on the shorter courses.
  • All applicants are required to complete a Cambridge placement test to ensure that their level is high enough. Please contact our registrar for further information.
  • The exam can be written in Cape Town.
  • Where possible, exams take place in the last week of the course. Therefore students can return home on the Sunday of their last course week. Please see the price list regarding which courses require an additional week of accommodation and which do not.
  • A minimum number of candidates is required for each exam to be administered in Cape Town. However, in practice this only affects CPE candidates, and is extremely rare.

We offer Cambridge exam preparation courses at three levels:

The Exam Preparation Course needs to be combined with a General English Course of 16 or 20 lessons or with Private Lessons.

IELTS

IELTS is increasingly widely recognised by universities and employers in English-speaking countries. It is also required for emigration to many English-speaking countries. You can choose to do the Academic English or the General English exam. See www.ielts.org for more information.

There are two exam centres in Cape Town, running the exam once or twice a month. For dates & fees please contact us.

TOEFL

TOEFL is a computer-based test focussing on academic English, and is widely recognised by universities and employers.

There is an exam centre in Cape Town and exams are run once or twice a month. The exam needs to be booked online by the student, using a credit card. For information and bookings see www.ets.org or contact us.
